Ø  Selected to serve as Advisory Counsel to MDAA s CEO in facilitating strategic planning.

Ø  Developed and implemented multiple process improvements impacting multiple facets of MDAA s business, ranging from new IT infrastructure, file management and new website and contact database to operational procedures, HR Handbook design/production, and new marketing and branding materials and processes.

Ø  Successfully interacted and worked with high-profile entities including White House, members of Congress, foreign embassies, celebrities and dignitaries, and corporate executives as MDAA Chief of Staff.

Ø  Strategically allocated and administered a combined $12.5M in budget/funding to maximize use of resources for Indiana State Library.

Ø  Appointed to work as part of Executive Team of Indiana s Governor; recipient of Sagamore of the Wabash Award, State of Indiana, Governor Joseph E. Kernan, December 2004.

Ø  Fostered relations with high-profile organizations/entities spanning Borders, Eli Lilly libraries, Indianapolis Star, Indiana Supreme Court, Indiana University, IUPUI, Indiana Library network, and State Legislature.

Ø  Worked collaboratively with state representatives on federal legislation related to libraries and funding.

Ø  Member of numerous committees/task forces with Indiana State Library including CIPA, COSLA and IMLS.

Ø  Earned two promotions with USA Today based on dynamic performance and solid contributions to success.

Ø  Expanded USA Today profit streams by steering an adjunct revenue channel generating $1.6M in business.

Ø  Negotiated several USA Today contracts with key clients and vendors including Factiva.com and Lexis-Nexis

Ø  Launched innovative web service to strategically increase visibility through a target market web presence

Ø  Served as image/content copyright officer for USA TODAY, Gannett News Service, Baseball Weekly, USA WEEKEND, and usatoday.com.

 

Chief of Staff, MDAA C Alexandria, VA                                                                                          2006-Current                            

Steer all organization functions ranging from operations, business planning and policies/procedures through $1.6M budget/funds administration and 5 staff/4 contract personnel. Productively collaborate and interact with executives, members of Congress, foreign embassies, and the White House.

Concurrently manage non-profit business for CEO, including creating marketing/branding packages; strategically hired grant writer and website design team to expand program recognition nationwide.

Key projects and contributions have included:

          Collaboratively built team to drive all programs including events, media/public relations, fundraising/ membership, dissemination, and advocacy.

          Partnered with PRM team and media in spearheading marketing/branding initiatives.

 

Director, INDIANA STATE LIBRARY C Indianapolis                                                                                2003-2005

Decisively oversaw all aspects of the State Library including strategic business planning, policies and procedures, HRM of 60 staff and 8 departments, and collections numbering over 2 million items.

Contributed to the marketing/PR effort of the library by authoring articles for publication in professional publications.

Managed $3.5M operational budget, $2.4M in state funds, $3M in federal funds, and $2M in other grants/funding.

Cultivated/built collaborative library team through recruitment, training, and ongoing development; built team to drive all programs including events, media/public relations, fundraising/membership, dissemination, and advocacy.

Accountable for contributing to a number of process improvements by:

          Installing secret shoppers to evaluate and provide feedback on customer service.

          Spearheaded the grand re-opening of the library from planning and facilitation.

          Contributing to and managing the development of a new website to create a web presence.

          Facilitating several topical summits covering digitization, and museum and library economic development.

          Established the Best Books award and Synergy award.

          Managed relocation of GIS offices to the State Library along with the Indiana Pioneers geological society.

          Partnered with PRM team and media in spearheading marketing/branding initiatives

 

Library Director, USA TODAY                                                                                                      1988-2003

As key member of editorial executive team, managed a $1M budget, staff of 17 and all daily activities of a large news library; ran a revenue generating arm which created over $1.6M.

Defined polices, direction and departmental strategies, and developed new fee-based products to expand profit channels; developed bridges across departmental and organizational lines for revenues from large newsrooms and research fees for domestic, national, federal/public and private corporations.

Numerous contributions and achievements included:

• Developed the at your service program and online research services used by newsroom clients.
• Trained employees in text archiving Internet usage and Lexis/Nexis.
