KSA Questions/Responses

1. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and required formats.

Throughout my military/government and civilian career, one of my key roles has been to ensure the quality of correspondence, reports and related written materials through effective use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax, as well as internal formats.

For example, in my most recent position with Northrop Grumman, I was responsible for comprehensively reviewing, proofing and editing all outgoing communications on the Site Manager s behalf, to ensure critical compliance with policies, format, spelling, punctuation, and enclosures.  Prior to promoting to the Senior Area Supervisor position, I held similar responsibilities for ensuring the quality and accuracy of complex written materials as a Linguist.

2. Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

As a professional Linguist, I offer dynamic, multi-lingual oral communication skills which I have applied toward communicating with broad populations representing a wide range of professional levels and cultures across multiple areas of operations.

In a supervisory capacity, the ability to effectively communicate assignments, directives, policies, procedures, and objectives to a team of over 400 Linguists was vital to successfully supporting international military objectives.  I successfully applied my communication skills toward recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training over 200+ staff over the course of 5 years.  In this position, I also continually interfaced with customers to define, address and meet their technical requirements, illustrating the ability to effectively communicate complex information with both technical and non-technical audiences.  I also consistently briefed military personnel on operational goals, project status, etc. to ensure optimal performance.

Prior to this, I held Senior Administrative Assistant positions, where I actively collaborated with cross-functional departments, internal and external staff, clients, and both domestic and international strategic partners in order to meet operational objectives.

3. Knowledge of office management practices and administrative support processes.

Concurrent with my responsibilities in supervising 400+ Linguists in my most recent position, I was responsible for delivering extensive administrative, operational and technical support to the Site Manager.  This required a comprehensive knowledge of office management and administrative processes.  For example, I was responsible for planning and coordinating meetings, conferences and travel as well as managing a complex appointment calendar.  I also maintained personnel time and attendance, leave and related records, expense reports, and suspense/routine file systems for a high volume of written communications.

In the civilian sector, as a Senior Administrative Assistant with Mercer Management Consulting, I was heavily involved in planning and coordinating both domestic and international conferences and meetings, managing high-volume incoming phone calls and reviewing reports and communications for accuracy.  While with the University of Chicago s Department of Radiology, I was responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support to approximately 25 Faculty and Support staff.  This included developing, updating and maintaining complex research subject and patient records.

4. Ability to communicate in writing.

I successfully managed a high volume of written communications with Northrop Grumman, where I was responsible for developing quality correspondence, directives and related written materials.  I was also relied upon to efficiently gather and disseminate detailed information in order to develop strong operational reports vital to supporting senior staff in defining and executing future plans/strategies.  While there, I effectively applied my sharp written communication skills toward authoring a Training Manual for incoming supervisory personnel.  In my earlier position as a Linguist with the organization, I applied my written communication skills toward translating multi-lingual documents, memos and legal briefs.

Further illustrating my written communication skills, I rewrote the operating procedures and policy letters for our P.E.T. Center at the University of Chicago, playing a key role in substantially improving efficiency, productivity and quality of our operations.

5. Knowledge of office automation software applications.

I am highly proficient in word processing, spreadsheet production, database administration, and graphics and have routinely integrated technology/automation software with administrative operations to maximize performance.  I have used these skills to create correspondence, reports and related written materials as well as to manage high volumes of operational data and client information.

While with the P.E.T. Center at the University of Chicago, I collaborated in creating and launching an efficient database to optimize the restoration and reconstruction of critical data.
