Address your experience using tools associated with laboring work (shovel, rake, broom, cleaning utensils, etc.)  Address your experience using tools associated with laboring work (shovel, rake, broom, cleaning utensils, etc).Address your ability or experience working independently when assigned tasks or duties. Include your ability or experience lifting more than 40 pounds.

As a Laborer with the National Park Service, I have effectively managed facilities and grounds cleanup and routine maintenance in an independent, self-driven environment where I was assigned projects by the Supervisor and then relied upon to effectively plan and coordinate tasks to meet goals.  In all tasks, I relied heavily on using a broad range of tools and equipment.

Working in all weather conditions, I effectively adapted my skills to meet varied demands.  During autumn, I consistently ensured all grounds, trails and walkways were safe and passable by efficiently removing leaves and tree branches.  During rain, I ensured drains were clear and free of debris and leaves.  For leaf removal, I effectively operated handheld blowers as well as commercial-grade backpack blowers in addition to using rakes. I also used shovels to dig holes and plant trees in the spring, and performed digging and shoveling of varied materials ranging from sand to snow during winter.

As part of my grounds maintenance responsibilities, I used low-emission commercial trimmers to cut around poles, walls and trees and trim shrubs and bushes; I also operated a John Deere small tractor and lawn mower.  In support of sanitation requirements, I effectively managed refuse/litter pickup and swept outside and around the vicinity of a monument and all facilities using brooms and pans to move water, leaves and garbage.

I was further responsible for loading and unloading supplies from docked boats and piers and then efficiently coordinating appropriate storage; I am experienced in and capable of lifting 100 pounds.

2. Work practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order).
Address your experience in the storage, treatment and care of supplies and equipment. Include any experience or skill in keeping logs or records related to laboring work or work practices.

Whether in the tool room, on the rack, in the yard, or on the bench, I have consistently demonstrated the ability to maintain supplies, equipment and workspace to ensure neatness and cleanliness, and understand the value of maintaining order to boost productivity and efficiency.  I am diligent about immediately returning things to their place to minimize misplacement or loss and routinely inspect, clean and repair tools or coordinate servicing for optimal operational performance.   I have managed efficient storage areas through regular upkeep and strategic organization of items.

I also offer you solid record keeping skills.  After being assigned tasks by my supervisor at the National Park Service, I maintained detailed logs of time required for each project, providing management with a valuable tool for evaluating job requirements, determining optimal allocation of resources and ensuring that I was performing my job efficiently to meet timelines and goals.  While employed as a Residential Aide/Security Professional with Women in Need, Inc., I maintained a detailed daily log book of resident and visitor activities. Additionally, as a Protection Officer with the Smithsonian Institution, I developed and prepared quality written incident reports for submission to management.

3. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc (other than blueprints).
Address or specify your experience in receiving and interpreting instruction related to laboring functions. Include the type of instruction, level of detail and situation involved.

I am adept in using technical instructions and manufacturer specifications in order to efficiently maintain equipment.  For instance, my supervisor had asked me to repair a National Park Service lawnmower, and after troubleshooting the problem to a damaged belt, I took the initiative to locate the specification book.  I then effectively interpreted the instructions to ensure the correct installation of the belt.

Working in minimal-supervision environments, I have routinely needed to interpret supervisor instructions in order to perform required tasks.  As an example, my supervisor would give me limited instructions to seed the grounds, and it was my responsibility to interpret the steps required to dig the holes, plant the grass seed and facilitate watering in the most efficient and accurate manner.

4. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Address or specify your experience using or maintaining tools and equipment related to general laboring work, building and grounds maintenance. Include the type of tools and equipment used and the degree of maintenance that you performed and under what circumstances (independent use or under supervision).

The majority of my work has been performed independently, under minimal supervision, illustrating my ability to effectively manage time and resources to meet employer needs.  I have operated and maintained a wide variety of general labor, building and grounds maintenance tools and equipment.

I have worked with equipment including tractors, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, and blowers. Additionally, I am proficient in using shipping/receiving and warehousing equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks and dollies.  I am also experienced with hand tools such as axes, wrenches, socket ratchets, screwdrivers, pliers, rakes, and shovels.

5. Safety and dexterity.
Address or specify your experience working and performing job duties related to laboring and grounds and building maintenance in a safe manner. Include any safety training or awards received

To enhance my skills, I have capitalized on the opportunity to acquire safety training, and have earned a Fire Safety Certificate from the Fire Science Institute. I am familiar with managing hazardous materials, including flammables such as gasoline, oil and paint thinner and am adept in labeling flammable liquid fuel for safety.

Further, I am proficient in the safe operation of a variety of power/gas/electric equipment with a zero-incident record.
