singular value decomposition with the idea of image compression in mind. computer images are typically stored in matrices, and more often than not, these matrices are not of the square variety. tasks involve reducing a matrix that allows for images to be stored with far less memory. reducing an 6 x18 matrix requires more complicated methods than would be learned in standard linear algebra coursework, namely singular value decomposition. example images were created showing the differences in resolution and its correlation to the level of matrix reduction. ø  task scheduling for the solar powered mars exploration rovers:
taking into consideration the daylight available each day and the potential tasks the rovers would perform, we built a matlab algorithmic program to create a highly efficient scheduling method, allowing for optimum productivity. (advisor: dr. pierre maldev, nasa jet propulsion laboratory, samsi 2003 summer workshop)

ø  game theory and the bargaining problem:
researched john nash bargaining problem. the bargaining problem is one that introduces two or more parties in a non-cooperative situation (game) and attempts to discover the most universally beneficial solution. commonly applied to economic theory.

ø  cryptography using elliptic curves:
application in number theory, polynomial mathematics, and modern algebra. this form of cryptography is typically used in devices such as cellular phones and pda's. (advisor: dr. kenneth spackman, unc-wilmington)

ø  summer workshop:

      accepted into samsi summer workshop at north carolina state university.  worked in

      small group, mentored by dr. pierre maldev, on project in conjunction with jet propulsion

      lab at nasa.  project involved activity scheduling for solar-powered mars rovers.  utilized

      matlab programming to build efficient scheduling model for rovers' daily tasks.
