KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs)
FACTOR A: Ability to apply rules, regulations, and establish policies.
In my prior Social Work internship at West High School, I consistently identified and applied rules, regulations and established policies. I concurrently learned and applied the Denver School District rules as well as the Metropolitan State Social Work regulations. For example, when pregnant girls came into my office asking for guidance about abortions, I strictly adhered to Denver School District policies of not discussing any termination adoptions and referred them to an outside source for thorough discussion of pros and cons. Even when they asked for my personal opinions and guidance, I chose to comply with rules and regulations by never discussing abortion.
In addition, I coordinated and led meetings with students concerning their records and their ability to remain in school. I exhibited solid leadership abilities in educating and counseling students regarding the applicable rules and help them understand the specific rules they were breaking.
Due to the high number of undocumented students at West High School, I gained a valuable opportunity to learn and abide by district rules and state laws. I met the Mexican consulate on two separate instances and learned directly how they applied to students.
On one occasion, a couple came into my office wishing to get married but believed they were unable to, since neither of them had proper identification. I personally performed comprehensive research and analysis of the appropriate laws and discovered that in lieu of valid ID, all they needed to do was obtain sworn notarized affidavits. I applied the law to this couple s particular situation, educating them on how to proceed and ultimately, through my guidance, they were able to finally get married.

While serving as an Intern for Congressman Scott McInnis, I conducted comprehensive research and analysis of legislative proposals in order to provide constituents with accurate data and persuade them to draw similar conclusions. Also, I scanned and filtered various media outlets in order to report on issues important to the Congressman.
While pursuing my Master of Public Administration degree, I designed and implemented a year-long project. I actively tracked the success rate of self-designed intervention, gathering the necessary data and analyzing the facts to draw conclusions. I also collected answers to a 21-question survey from 100 different individuals. Using SPSS software, I analyzed and interpreted the information for a school project and received an A.
