Independent Management and Tax Consultant 2009-Present
Provided two large family groups, each with net worth in the high eight figures, with accounting, tax planning and compliance, financial planning, and other family office services.
Worked directly with CEO of a successful chain of restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area looking to expand business to China to build a complex financial operating model and to develop the business plan.
Provided advice to senior management of a newly-formed joint venture on a variety of strategic, operational, and tax subjects including business strategy and planning, financial modeling, operations design and optimization, business plan, mergers and acquisitions, operating budget development, U.S. and foreign entity structuring, and equity including planning of specific executive compensation strategies.
Assisted the CPA firm, Harb, Levy & Weiland, for three months in building their real estate practice, de novo, in a new, emerging market for the firm, i.e., real estate workouts and debt restructurings.
Senior Tax Manager, Deloitte Tax, LLP (San Francisco) 2008-2009
Provided financial planning and tax advice, including developing and implementing strategies for estate and gift tax planning, income tax planning, risk management, charitable giving, cash flow, and retirement planning for high net worth individuals and families.
Provided tax compliance and consulting services to over fifteen private equity and venture capital firms, including hundreds of multi-tier limited partnerships, LLCs, and corporations, management companies, as well as non-U.S. and foreign entities, brokerage companies, hotels, real estate companies, and other privately held entities.
Managed all aspects of client engagement, primary client contact, billing and fee management, supervising, leading, and training the engagement team, tax compliance process, and developing relationship and tax plan.
Reviewed and signed complex individual, trust, gift, partnership, corporate, and multi-state income tax returns. Significant experience in complex international and foreign reporting and compliance.

Senior Tax Manager, KPMG, LLP (San Francisco) 2005-2008
Clients consisted of the largest private equity tax client of KPMG in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the founder and his large family, real estate owners, developers, and investors, real estate funds and companies, private equity portfolio companies, other privately held business entities, and high net worth individuals and families with a net worth ranging from $25 million to $100 million plus.
Recruited and hired by KPMG tax leadership to help build KPMG s Private Client or high net worth tax practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Transferred to Federal Tax Group after KPMG required to divest most of its individual tax practice.
Led KPMG s high net worth individual tax practice in the San Francisco Bay Area after the divestiture. KPMG allowed to retain individual tax work only for owners and C level executives of privately held business clients.
Firm-wide designated gift tax and Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax (GSTT) specialist and reviewer. Served as gift tax and GSTT resource for internal and external clients.
Reviewed and signed complex individual, trust, gift, partnership, LLC, and corporate tax returns for privately held business, private equity, venture capital, real estate, and high net worth individual clients.
Reviewed FAS 109 tax provisions in GAAP financial statements.
